MINISTRIES

Sunday Morning is Just the Start

At Advent Presbyterian Church, we believe that attendance on Sunday mornings is just the start of what Christian community should look like. We have opportunities to get plugged into small groups, take classes, serve the neighborhood, and make genuine connection with other people.

PARISH GROUPS

Grow together in community

If you’re new to Advent and wondering how to get connected, Parish Groups are the place to start. We call them Parish Groups to remind us that our faith isn’t limited to Sunday — each group is a small expression of the church’s mission in its local neighborhood, a place where you can truly know others and be known.

These neighborhood-based gatherings meet regularly to share life, grow in faith, and serve together. Parish Groups follow three simple rhythms: growing upward in faith, inward in community, and outward in service. Groups meet in homes or local spots, and childcare help is available to make participation easier for everyone.

CHILDREN

Bring the whole family

At Advent Houston, we love kids and believe in discipling them from the earliest age. Our desire is to teach the good news of Jesus Christ—the central message of the entire Bible—as the foundation for their lives.

Our hope is simple: to teach our children to know God’s truth, in His love, for His glory.

We are committed to sharing the “glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done” (Psalm 78:4). We teach the full, sweeping story of Scripture so that every child can embrace the knowledge of God’s plan of redemption through Jesus. We desire to build strong relationships with every child, founded on Jesus Christ. Our prayer is that as they begin to know God, they will deeply know His love for them. As our children encounter the truth of who God is, we pray they will embody that truth in their lives as an act of worship. Our goal is to see them mature in their faith and extend God’s grace to others as they grow. We recognize that families are the primary spiritual influence, and most discipling happens within the home. We are here to support and equip you as you shepherd your children!

CHILDREN & YOUTH

Bring the whole family

At Advent Houston, we love kids and believe in discipling them from the earliest age. Our desire is to teach the good news of Jesus Christ—the central message of the entire Bible—as the foundation for their lives.

Our hope is simple: to teach our children to know God’s truth, in His love, for His glory.

We are eager to partner with and support parents in discipling their children. We offer classes and other opportunities to get involved for children ages 6 months all the way through high school.

YOUTH

For your teens

The mission of the student ministry at Advent Houston is to disciple students (grades 6-12) to know, love, and follow Jesus Christ, grounding them in the authority of Scripture and preparing them to live faithfully for God’s glory in all areas of life. Our primary mode of connection is the every-other-week Sunday Night Youth gathering, led by staff and volunteers. This time is designed for depth, fellowship, and intentional community. It also provides a welcoming space for fellowship, fun, and building genuine relationships centered on Christ, ensuring no student walks alone. We partner with Reformed Youth Ministry (RYM) for summer camps, providing a vital opportunity for intensive, focused spiritual growth. We are committed to partnering with parents as the primary spiritual shepherds of their students, reinforcing the faith taught and nurtured in the Christian home.

MISSION PARTNERSHIPS

Partnering with others on mission

We view our mission—to embrace, embody, and extend the grace of Jesus Christ—as an invitation to join the work God is already doing in the world, which is why mission partnerships are so central to who we are. We deeply focus our efforts locally in our community. To be truly present and serve those closest to us, we actively partner with local organizations—including those who are not explicitly Christian—in and around healthcare, academia, and various works that share our vision for the flourishing and benefit of our city.

Yet, our passion for extending Christ’s grace reaches well beyond Houston, as we are also committed to supporting global partners engaged in similar vital work, such as university outreach, church planting, and discipleship training. By intentionally working alongside partners whose vision aligns with ours, both here and abroad, we empower our community to live out Christ’s grace and bring His resurrection hope to our neighborhood and the nations.

MEN'S & WOMEN'S MINISTRY

Experience relational discipleship

We believe real growth happens in community. Our Parish Groups are the main way we do ministry and enjoy fellowship together. However, we also know that there’s a vital need for men to connect with men, and women with women, so we host some gender-specific events throughout the year.

To take spiritual growth even further, we’re launching a new, intentional initiative called Huddles, which is the core of our deeper relational discipleship. A Huddle is a small, intimate group of just three or four all men or all women who commit to meeting weekly for one year to be spiritual companions for one another.

In a Huddle, you’ll be encouraged toward greater vulnerability as you work through shared study and grow in your daily walk with Jesus. Inspired by the best models of spiritual friendship, this framework offers powerful discipleship and accountability, helping you actually apply the Gospel and respond to the Holy Spirit’s guidance in your life. We strongly encourage everyone to get connected through a Parish Group AND dive into the profound growth found in a Huddle!

CHRISTIAN STUDENT FELLOWSHIP

Support & equip students

The Texas Medical Center is the largest medical complex in the world, with multiple hospitals, research institutions and medical schools. Within the myriad of ways we could minister to the people in this area, one significant area of need we identified is with medical students. Medical school can be a humbling, arduous time in a person’s life as they begin their studies for an admirable, yet challenging, career in medicine.

The Christian Student Fellowship (CSF) seeks to embrace, embody, and extend the grace of Jesus Christ to students in the med center, and equip them to serve God through medicine. We do this by connecting students to each other and to medical professionals who want to care for them through meals, one-on-one relationships, Bible studies, and more. If you consider pursuing a career in medicine, we would love to connect with you and come alongside you as you venture into this calling for your life.
